Handgun Hunting Discussion

I have a Simmons Whitetail Classic 3x28 that I’ve had for probably 25 years. It has the black granite finish and a lit reticle. I’ve had it on numerous barrels over the years and it currently sits on my 6.5x55 Swedish barrel. Now here’s the weird thing. One of my buddies loved the scope and wanted to get one for his pistol. He asked where I got it and I told him Sportsmans guide, just like everything else hunting related. (It was the Amazon at the time). He looked on their site and couldn’t find. He called them and they said they didn’t have any and didn’t recall ever having any. They suggested he call manufacture. So he called Simmons and told them the model he was looking for and they told him that they had never made such a scope. So my question is, Do I have a one of a kind ? Prototype of what? It’s definitely a Simmons Whitetail Classic. Here are some pics. I’ve googled it and can’t find one like it online.
