Bench vs Hunting positions
Has anyone noticed a difference in where bullets hit target when shooting from bench and hunting positions. I have found that my Encore and Contender hit higher when shooting from a hunting position versus when shooting on a bench. The hunting position I leave the grip of the gun off the table and just rest the forend of the gun on a firm rest. When I’m shooting off the bench and have the grip of the pistol sitting on a firm bag the shots are lower. I believe the recoil is causing the barrel to rise without the grip on a firm bag. The difference is as much as 5”. I am thinking I should set all my guns scopes to hunting position or just hold low on deer when shooting from a stand. What’s your thoughts?

I sight in off a backpack filled with pillows OR a claw bag. I shoot off these in the field , offhand, or BogPod with PSR. See absolutely no change in POA in any of these. What I did see was shooting with bipods or BogPod from hard surfaces (rocks, hard wood, hard dirt) the barrel gets flipped a little & shots go high.
My grip is always firm & the gun fully rests on whatever surface I'm using.
