30-30 for Elk

Sitting around on 3rd shift gives you lots of time to think. I am putting in for a Kentucky elk tag this year(though I know I won't draw that tag or the TN one) and going through my contender barrels trying to figure out what I would use. Thinking my super 14" 30-30 barrel might do the trick. Would try and keep and keep shots within 100 yards if possible. Now I'm still pretty new to handloading but I have been looking at the Hammer bullets and thinking that I might try the 143gr Lever Hammer. Any thoughts on this or possibly some other bullet options?

Honestly I think you’ll be fine!

Using a good bullet, keeping shots at respectable distance, putting bullet in the right spot!

Go for it and keep us posted!
