Your thoughts on higher end 22's?

I just had a customer get cold feet on a 22 build we had been spec'ing. This is not a new thing, custom builds are costly folks can have doubts about spending big money on a custom! But I realized that it seems to happen more with the rimfires (Handgun and rifle both) and I wondered why?

It started at a get together last fall when a long time customer who has built several centerfires without even a twinge of doubt saw this gun:

"I gotta make something like that." Was the response when we were plinking together and the plotting began. Now with all the parts for his version of an everyday 22 gathered at last I got the old, "MAN, that's a lot of money - I mean its JUST a friggin 22 . . "

This is fine. People back out and it is not my job…

I AM BUYING THE DONOR GUN MENTIONED FROM JACK, THOUGHT LONG AND HARD ABOUT SOME CUSTOMIZATION BY JACK WHILE HE HAD IT IN HAND BUT OPTED TO GO AS IS. I CAN DO SOME DIY TRIGGER SPRING WORK AND HAVE A No. 5 STYLE BELT MOUNTAIN BASE PIN + A WELLS/GARZA REAR SIGHT THINGY IN MY PARTS cache. THEN IF IT IS A GOOD SHOOTER I CAN ADD A FERMIN "2 DOGS" GARZA FRONT SIGHT.

Rethinking my set up

Good afternoon all. Been tossing around an idea for a while now, and am wondering if anyone here has went through this and can offer some insight. I am currently running a TC Encore with 12” 44mag, 15” 460 S&W, and 15” 7mm08 barrels. The gun shoots great but weighs a ton. I am considering parting ways with it and going to a revolver. Has anyone regretted this choice? Would it be a mistake to sacrifice the weight for something easier to carry. A little bit of side info I don’t do any long range hunting 100-150yds max. Thanks

I just can't leave one of the 10mm at home, the G40 and the XDMElite are so enjoyable to hunt with......both with reddots. If revolvers are your calling then I suggest a 6, 6.5 or 8 3/8 inch .357mag, shoot a 180 grain WFN and you have enough pop without all the weight of the big boys - .41BH or 44 special GP100 would be a close second. Not on purpose but I do see myself drifting away from G2 contenders and the heavy revolvers mainly since i hunt close and smallish deer. Won't sell them as I still enjoy but the trend is obvious for me.

Early Season Doe

This is the first year we have had an early antlerless firearms season in Missouri. It ran this past weekend, Oct 6-8, and provided another few days to handgun hunt.

Saturday morning I saw several deer, and of course the only shot opportunities were antlered bucks. It was a clear cold and beautiful morning and all of the deer sightings made it even better.

Sunday morning the weather was the same. This time the first one to come in was this lone doe. Shot was a long one.... 15 yards. 😀

Hit was high shoulder but she still ran about 50 yards and piled up.

Firearm is my S&W 657-3 with Leupold DP Pro sight. Bullet was Sierra 210 JHC loaded with AA #9.

Thanks Dick. A cast bullet is where I'm headed next I think. I have some 250 HP's from GT Bullets (pretty soft) and I cast my own 230 Keith solids from an NOE mold. I feel pretty certain of an exit with that one no matter the angle. I've used cast in all of my larger caliber guns but in the 41 they've all been jacketed.
