New 475 Linebaugh

I just picked up another Freedom Arms 83. This one is chambered in 475 Linebaugh. I’d like to get some load recommendations for it. I stock up H110 and Longshot, so loads with these powders would be great, but any recommendations are welcome.

Awesome gun! As far as loads I still have some of the 400 Gold Dots. They are awesome but no longer made. If you find some, 25.5 grains H110 will get you just over 1200 fps and very accurate. The Montana bullet works 385 grain WFNGC bullet is great in the guns but also no longer made. NOE made that mold and they are going to be available again as Al is going to start making molds again. That bullet with 30.0 grains of H110 will run right around 1550 and is awesome. You don't have to run it that fast though. With the 420 Grain WFNs with 25.0 grain H110 will get you right at 1300 fps. You can push them faster but accuracy starts suffering.

What’s recoil like with one of these? I had a 500 JRH in a BFR and decided that was too much of a good thing, but I was using 460gr bullets if I remember right. The 350s were just fine and looking back I should have just changed loads as it was a shooter. Anyhow looking at maybe trying one of these 475s out they keep catching my interest.

With the mild 325 grain loads about like a warm .44 Magnum. With the hot 420 grain loads it is very brisk. Probably enough to peg most peoples fun meter. Definitely worse than a .454 but still pretty shoot able. Very accurate. The 385 WFNs seem, to be a sweet spot. I bought an NOE mold that is the same exact profile that CPB used except theirs was a gas check.

Zero Distance with a .44 Mag Red Dot

What distance do y’all typically zero your .44 Mag’s with a Red Dot?

Depending on the caliber, I sight mine either dead on at 50 or 2" high at 50.

Early Christmas Gift From My Wife

A couple of days ago, I got my Christmas Gift from my wife early(like a little kid I talked her into not wrapping it because I her gift from me was a new cellphone that couldn’t be wrapped).

It’s a Colt Anaconda in .44 mag. I shot it yesterday and it shoots great! Smooth action and decent balance. The recoil was much more forgiving than my S&W 29 with the classic wood grips(I like the Dirty Harry look). The Hogue grips on the Anaconda are ok. I wish they were a little thicker, especially since the gun is a bit front heavy.

Now the question is about optics. Any Anaconda owners have a suggestions for a decent scope base?? I have noticed they aren’t common(including Colt’s website, which I am less than thrilled with).

I think I am going to start with the red dot I have on hand(I‘ll pull…

Update: The Anaconda has a Weigand Scope Base and a Sig Romeo 5 Red Dot(it’s the Red Dot I had on hand. My only concern is it holding zero on recoil).
