Another just because gun

When I was a teenager in the 70s and really got excited about killing deer with a handgun the only handgun I had access to was a Dakota SAA copy in 357. At that time Tennessee's game law guide specifically named the cartridges legal to hunt with. .357 Mag, 41 Mag, 44 Mag, 30 Herrett and 357 Herrett. I was trying to figure out how to get an adjustable sighted .357 on hay hauling and tobacco cutting money.

I flipped open one of my gun magazines one day and was greeted by a Charter Arms add showing their Target Bulldog available in .357. The 44 Special wasn't legal yet but the .357 was. I tried to figure out how to get my hands on one while trying to get a car as well on farm boy money. By this time they introduced a new gun, The Bulldog Tracker also in .357. This one not only had adjustable sights but a bull barrel to boot. Now I really had to have one.

It still didn't happen. Time went on. I hunted with the Dakota and somewhere in the mix Tennessee changed the law allowing anything .24 and above as long as it had at least 4" of barrel. I finally got a real job and along with it a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt. Since the .44 Special was now legal I figured when money allowed I would grab a Target Bulldog in .44 SP and a Bulldog Tracker in .357. A few years later I did buy a .44 Special Target Bulldog. Larry Barnett of Larry's Pistol and Pawn fame sold some of his personal guns. I bought the 44 Special Target Bulldog. I still have it.

My ballistic knowledge grew as did my bank account and before I knew it I had amassed over 100 handguns. One day it hit me that the gun I had once yearned for, I never bought. The Bulldog Tracker in .357. I started half heartedly looking for one a couple of years ago. Last week I found a nice one. The gun is tight and the finish isn't bad. Much better than the pic I am going to post looks. Better pics later. Once again it seems that all is right with the world. So what are my plans with it? I am going to try to kill a deer or two with it then who knows. It is kind of like the story about the guy that never married, running up on the girl he loved in high school who also never married years later.

That is so cool, Roy.

I still have my first love, but have never killed a deer with her.
