460 Rowland

I've been thinking about getting one of these for awhile and wanted to get some input from those who use it to hunt. I'm looking at the 1911 platform and have a few questions for any of those with experience using them. In no particular order:

-Clark conversion or the Rowland company model? What are the pros and cons for each or is there anything that really matters between the two.

-Are there better platforms than the 1911 for the round? (Glock, etc.)

-Is the round as effective as advertised i.e. .44 magnum performance in a semiauto platform. Is there any real advantage over a 10 mm?

-Any tips or observations from those who have used it for hunting in terms of effective range and terminal performance. I'd be using it for deer and maybe black bear.

Thanks in advance.

I just did some side by side testing 460 Rowland vs 10MM.

I will get the pics posted and info in a day or two. The 460 pretty much smashed the 10MM. It acted much closer to the 44 magnum shot at the same time than the 10mm did. I have another bullet I want to try side by side but it is probably going to get similar results.

10mm vs 44 mag vs 460 Rowland

10mm 180gr Underwood load. 1256fps 8" penetration Widest point in wound channel 1.25"

460 Rowland 240 XTP Mag. 1377fps 16" penetration Widest point in wound channel 2"

44 magnum. 240 XTP. 1431fps 19" penetration Widest point in wound channel. 2"

I'll do a more scientific test later. While this 10mm load actually has a good reputation on deer it is clearly outclassed by the 460 and 44. I have a handload for the 10mm that will make a better showing. The 44 or 460 would have taken bigger critters safety.
