Newest 45 Super
Finished this last night, at least till the correct compensator is available which is out another 2 to 3 months. Yes I know the tanker brake is ugly but for the moment it is working by some judicious spring experimentation. This is a 45 Super that will predominantly digest lead free bullets. We know that lead free is a coming thing. Several states have adopted it or are in the process of adopting it. Of course you can shoot lead free ammo in what you have. This is an attempt to optimize lead free in a semi automatic. I know some of you already know this, that proper tuning makes a tangible difference in velocity. In the case of lead free bullets they are so much lighter per length than cup and core bullets that you have to load them according to case capacity rather than weight. Without getting too deep until the shooting starts there have been some interesting developments going on behind the scenes that should remove the perception that lead free bullets in automatic handguns can't perform at the same level as cup and core bullets. This will be an ongoing experiment over a couple of months.

From Saturday running the 45 Super over the chronograph with the 150 grains I have two different loads that are probably going to work well. Both are in the low 1400 fps range. One of the loads is putting up single digit ES numbers. When I get this all done I will be glad to share info. I am currently working with data from two sources that are being very helpful. Pressures in the 45 Super are running right in the 26,000 psi range so within the 27,000 psi ceiling. More to come.
