Dink on a Dillo
Well this was unexpected, but welcome nonetheless. Yesterday was as beautiful as fall days come in Northern Louisiana. Crisp air, sun and a nice breeze made the gun range sing tommy soul. The goal of the afternoon was a single cold bore shot at 100 yards with my newly added Contender in the venerable 44 magnum. After a load work up I was confident in the guns ability, only needing to hone my own. As soon as I got the go ahead from my wife I was loaded and off to the range. Our range stretches it's legs out to 300 yards, with a shotgun range off to the left at about 150 yards. As I approached the 100 yard berm a glistening shimmer caught my eye in the shotgun field. Round and small it was obvious that an armadillo was gorging himself on worms in the low lying soft grass. Target of opportunity.
I returned to bench after placing targets and found him again in the spotting scope. The contender was loaded and after searching for a short while I was able to locate the shell back worm mongrel. POW, WHOP, FLOP! The old beast dust rolled at the crack of the 44. I couldn't believe it; cold bore with a handgun at 150 paces. I finished up the day blasting paper and couldn't help myself with a victory photo. These armadillo wreak havoc on our range so pest control was welcomed. Who would've thought the first kill with my contender would be an arma
