Terrible Lizard

Full disclosure, I’m green; green to the handgun hunting world. Aside from the unfortunate cottonmouth, tin can, or other pestering vermin, the large game handgun kill has yet to happen. Being a father of four tykes under 2, yep, triplets and an 8 month old bonus baby, time is not on my side currently. However the stars have aligned. September in Louisiana is great for LSU football, teal, and gators. Fortunately I’m able to work with some great folks and had the opportunity to hunt alligator mississippiensis, the king of the swamp. After a swift eventful teal hunt, time had come to check gator lines. Following a small fight, the primordial lizard was stoned with one shot to the gray matter from my dads old Ruger Single Six he had in college. Loaded up in the boat and mouth quickly taped shut, I had my first big game animal with a handgun. With adrenaline pumping and high-fives going around, our hands were shaking and knees were wobbling. We were pumped! My hunting buddy and I were able to take another gator that day, topping off a lifetime hunt. We had created a story our kids and their kids will hear about. I am a grateful man; grateful for the opportunity to hunt and grateful for this community of handgun hunters to share my experiences with. Hope y’all enjoy!
