Is a brake needed for a .223?

I'm currently working on a SSK-50 and have added a 14" .223 Rem. barrel. I've been shooting a 20 VT for the last 5 years and it has very little recoil. I can easily see my hits on PD at a distance. I would like to do the same with contender I'm working on. I usually shoot with the scope set around 5-7 power.

Those of you shooting the 223 is a brake needed to see the hits on a PD?

A good solid bottomed brake is helpful for spotting your own hits
