The 400 Cor-Bon is together

So what do you do with a new G21SF that you're not using? I have enough 45 Supers so....another tale from the bizarre. This is one of my brain storms. Might work!

There are several thousand 400 Cor-Bon guns out there. There are others that converted 1911s then the interest waned as the 10mm finally gained a foothold. The biggest problem was the bullets for which it was designed weren't designed for it. They are capable of launching 135 grain XTPs 1650 fps. The 135 comes apart pretty bad past 1150 fps. The design didn't work well with heavier bullets such as the 165, 180 and 200 grain bullets. It was at its best with 150 grain bullets. A defensive bullet at best. This isn't a new idea. It's been rattling around in my head for a while. The 120gr CEB acts like a much heavier cup and core jackete…

Well after running some rounds though it I think it works. runs like a new sewing machine. I got some of the 120 grain CEB bullets loaded last night. I will try to get it chronographed this weekend.

TAG Precision sights on another gun

Simply swapping sights on one of my stock guns raised my average score 20 pts. in GSSF matches. I out shot my unlimited gun with a bone stock G22 simply by changing the sights per the new rule. If you can't beat them join them. I took my custom G24 to the shop last night and swapped the Dawson's out for TAG sights. The difference was immediately visible. I hunt with this gun as well and it does a great job on deer. I can see me gaining a few minutes of shooting light with these new sights. Here is the new front sight on the right and the Dawson on the left.

My switch caliber chassis is now wearing a Matchdot II Green

I finally got my MDII Green. I have numerous slides and barrels to switch out on the same frame. For now this will run as a 10MM and a 45 Super. I used that 10MM slide and barrel last year with a 2X Leupold. After I got to play with the MDII I was sold.

Nice set up. I'd bet that MDII could be just the ticket for ranges over 100 yards. Good luck this season.

So yes Virginia, matches do help hunting!

After getting back into competitive shooting I can tell it is making a big difference in my target acquisition time. In addition the more I shoot in the match type scenarios the more I focus on the actual target with speed. In other words I consider the (X) to be the perfect aiming point for a clean kill. Although most of my shots are from rests whether intentional or improvised the occasion still exists in my type of hunting where a quick offhand shot is needed. There is no question that burning ammo while on a timer is helping with this. Just musings while taking a break.

Friday night we had shoot two of the 2nd yearly match. I took advantage of the sight rule change in Stock class. I installed TAG Precision sights on my old pet G22 for the last match and I could immediately tell the difference. Same thing this time out. Having sight you can see in any light is invaluable. I was pretty happy with my shooting Friday. Out in daylight I can put 50 shots in the X at 25 yards but not in the indoor range. I am getting a set of TAG sights for it to. I run Dawson's on that gun which are great in daylight but I can see the advantage of the TAGs in the indoor light. My G24 is getting jealous but since even the Glock instructors never even saw a Gen 2 G24 (super rare and I have been offered a lot for it) I am not changing a thing on it. Besides I can shoot it fine outside.
