357 for whitetail questions.

I recently joined HHI and posted the success my wife and I had in 2022. With that said both of here deer were harvested with a 10" 357 magnum barrel. I hand loaded 140 grain Barnes xpb over some higher end loads of h110 and 296. The deer obviously were both dead, shot placement was great with full pass through. But not a drop of blood from either deer, which made recovery challenging. Are there better bullet options to look into? I want something that will open a wound channel and pass through. I have since mover her to a 45LC barrel. But I feel I've left meat on the bone with the 357. I appreciate any advice and pictures of your harvests. Thanks

I've always been a big 357 magnum fan with cast bullets, mostly using a Keith solid or the old Ray Thompson GC design & either taking out the shoulders or doing a double lung shot. Recently I 've been using a cast HP design by Miha & they work great on lung shots but will also hold up on the high shoulder shot. Deer aren't hard to kill. Currenty my OM Ruger is at Bobby Tylers in Texas for a little front sight work & a couple other things, when it gets home I'll give it a good test drive & work it back into the rotation. Love those 357's, they are under rated as long as you place the bullet correctly. Paco Kelly has taken several Black Bears with his.
