410 Contender Barrel - What Patterns The Best
Looking at 410/45 barrels for contenders and there are many many options to choose. Some ribbed, some iron sights, some octagon barrels, some external chokes, internal chokes, and various lengths. I cant seem to find a general consensus from forums and personal accounts on which one patterns the best. I am looking to hunt pheasants, grouse, and other small game at a distance of 20-25 yards. From what I am reading, some folks have terrible patterns with donut holes and some folks claim that they are putting almost all BBs on target at 30 yards. If a guy was looking for tighter full pattern for hunting upland game, then what contender barrel configuration (barrel type, choke type, length, etc.) would be the best to purchase?

Thanks for the polite responses! I just came across an interesting discussion reguarding 410/45 barrels from Schultz Precision. Apparently they recut the rifling straight and add a tighter custom choke. After these modifications it's sounds like it makes a magical 410 barrel for turkey. This pertty much renders the 45 useless though without a twist, which I am ok with. Seems like a great solution though! If anyone has done this I would love to hear how it went. In the meantime I think I'll start saving up for this. I'll report back if I end up going this route and let you know how it shoots!
