BULLET TEST TUI vs Hardcast vs commercial.

Today I wanted to get some caparitive data on the monolithic TUI FortScott Munitions and my own Cast bullets. I also shot some commercial HP bullets into the media.

The media; watersoaked paper mostly magazines and old catalogs. I soak them for at least 6 hours to assure they are really soaked. I use news print because its available , its inexpensive and gives good comparitive data. I also like the fact that wound track is sustainable and gives good information on the potential for soft tissue disruption. Penetration is measurable and most of the time I can capture the bullets within 24-26”. But sometimes not depending on calibers and velocity of hardcast.

Some of the bullets and loads are handloads and the 10mm is loaded like the 10mm is supposed to be loaded so I won’t share the load data.

The exception is the TUI its commercially loaded by them.

In the below pics from left to right 10mm 155 grain XTP entrance then the 220 grain WFN hard cast almost on top of that 155 and far right the TUI 125 grain. The gun is a Sig X-Ten Comp the distance was 15 feet.

What I found interesting is the TUI and hardcast had the same amout of damage and penetrated the same about 23”. The XTP is really rocking but got 14” of penetration and some impressive disruption 2” into the newsprint. The TUI and hard cast showed huge entrance holes and did some really impressive damage for about 17” then settled down and came to rest. I have watched several tests with TUI and it impresses me and for carry I use commercial ammo so this is accurate and some excellent ballistic performance. I know WFN hardcast work great I have taken many many many head of game using them but this monolithic TUI is on par with the WFN. The muzzle blast with TUI 125 grain is definately noticiable but that thing is zingling along they claim 1611 FPS from a 5” barrel and honestly I beleive it although slightly slower out of the Sig X-Ten Comp.

So I wanted to see if the similarities in penetration were an anomoly so I got my 45 FNX Tactical out and ran a Hornady Defender 185 grain, A TUI 180 grain and a cast 185 grain wadcutter. These are all +p except the Hornady redtipped defense ammo. The TUI claims 989 FPS from a 5” barrel. The cast is running over 1000 FPS.

So the results were very simular TUI and cast went 20” in penetration with simular disrution of the wet paper. The Hornady 15” really mushroomed nicely and reatined weight pretty good. So same results as the 10mm.

So in the picture with the bullets starting left to right

1.) 220 grain GC WFN 10mm 23” penetration good disruption

2). 155 grain XTP 10mm (this load running fast.) 14” penetration once in it opened up good and sis aome damage.

3.) FortScott Munition TUI 125 grain 10mm 24” of penetration and plenty of damage.

4.) 45ACP 180 grain FortScott Munition TUI lots of damage and 20” of penetration.

5.) 45 ACP Cast PC truncated cast bullet lots if damage and 20” of penetration this bullet is running well over 1000 FPS

6.) 45 ACP 185 grain defense round good performance and 15” of penetration.

It was quartering away. At impact , I saw and heard the air come out of its lungs. It squealed and hit the ground flopping. Didn’t clean it, so not sure o the internal damage.
