2025 KY Deer Season

The weather was absolutely crazy during the 2025 firearms season in my state of Kentucky.  During the 16 day season, the weather ranged from 20° with 30 MPH winds and snow, to sunny and 75° less than 36 hours later.  We had a considerable amount of rain during the second week with most days being overcast.  Despite the large variance in the weather, the deer were moving and I only failed to see deer one day.

I try to harvest as many does as I can as the county I hunt has an unlimited amount that can be taken each year.  We are only allowed one buck, but as many does as we buy tags for.

The first shot opportunity was late Tuesday evening of the first week.  This mature doe came out to feed in the field and offered a broadside shot at 157 yards.  T/C Contender chambered in 6.5 Bullberry Improved using a 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip.

This doe showed up about 30 minutes after daylight and offered a shot at 64 yards.  Freedom Arms 41 magnum using a 210 grain Speer Deep Curl.

A few mornings later a small 6 point came in chasing this doe.  She finally stopped long enough so I could get a shot.  46 yards with the FA 41 with the same 210 grain Speer.

I saw ten different bucks throughout the season, most of them were small 4,6 and 8's with a few spikes showing up.  I did see three different bucks that I would have taken, but didn't get a shot opportunity.  I will try again in December when KY has their week long muzzleloader season.

Overall it was a good season.  I processed one of the does and put in my freezer and the other two were donated to Kentucky's Hunters for the Hungry program.
