The boy shot a doe but…

Youth season started 9/2, we put some corn out a few days prior to set Mitch up for a nice close shot.

Went out opening morning and jumped a doe off the corn getting into the stand, 10 minutes later she was back, 3 minutes after legal shooting light.

Mitch was calm and aimed well, didn't rush, smooth trigger pull. Doe drops like a rock at 22 yards from the stand. Lays still for about 15 seconds and while we are fist bumping in the tree she jumps up and takes off.....

We gave her about 45 minutes and started to track. Blood was ok for about 60-80 yards then completely stopped. Searched for 3 hours and couldn't find her...

Mitch is a bit bummed but he knows that it unfortunately happens sometimes and he knows we tried our hardest to find her.

I had one that bled really well for a ways and then tracked pin blood to a field . The last sign i found was hair on the tree line across that field. I came back the next day and searched the steep ravine below and still found nothing. Learned how to track pretty good from that experiance though. Also never tried that ammo again . Sometimes we learn the hard way but we do learn from it.
