Son’s first handgun kill
My boy whacked his first handgun kill this weekend. He shot a 12” 308 on an impact action. He wanted to be his first sibling to kill a deer with a handgun. Now both of his older sisters want to kill deer with that gun. A little sibling rivalry is good to stoke up the desire to do new things. Now he has asked if he can kill his next one with a revolver. I have one being tuned up that was my grandfathers 41 mag, that will be a good one for him to try next.
He shot a Hornady 178 eld-x at 2456 performed well. The cull weighed 210 pounds and my boy did a high shoulder shot. Tracking in this part of South Texas can be a very laborious and painful adventure with how thick the brush is. A 40 yard run may take you 30 minutes to drag out a 210# deer. He executed the shot perfectly and the deer dropped in its tracks, video is attached. The bullet was under the hide on the offside poking out about 1/2”, almost poking free.
Super proud of him and sounds like my next generation of handgun hunters may have just started.

Outstanding!,
