Micro handgun hunting.....

I was reminiscing recently with a co-worker about a belgian or spanish or italian reproduction of a .22 short colt butler side-swinging derringer that someone had given me some 47 years ago and has been long lost. We both agreed that either the beretta 21 or taurus pt-22 with their tip-up design is the modern equivalent if using ammunition that does not cycle the slide.....short and long cb loads come to mind as do blanks propelling airgun pellets.

So I have been experimenting of late with a taurus pt-22 and an old fmj brand .22/.410 o/u oddity and several n.a.a. revolvers including the "companion" percussion version.

All will slay vermin at very close range but the hard to find and expensive lr and wmr shotshells seem the most useful. The airgun pellets and cascade short blanks are quite uniquely entertaining in the taurus. The skirted pellets must be loaded backwards to prevent the skirt separating and sticking in the chamber. The gamo round balls are undersized and require patcing with a tiny square of masking tape to keep fro rolling through.

Yes, a bb or pellet pistol would probably be more logical but there is some added gratification in the pops and bangs of the rimfires and tiny percussion revolvers.

Your thoughts and or advice is welcomed.....

Love this experiment!

I have long wished for a short-range varmint gun I could use in town, without having to resort to an expensive PCP air pistol and all the various accoutrements you have to get along with it.
