44 Special Questions
I loaded up some 44 Specials last night using Sierra 240 JHC and Win Autocomp. I’ve got a couple of questions I’d love to get your opinions on.
Over All Length- My Barnes Manuel gives the OAL for 44. Special as 1.615. However, .44 Mag OAL is 1.610. Even though the .44 Special has a much shorter case? I’m curious to why the shorter cases 44 Special has a larger over all length? Right now mine are seated at 1.510-ish.
Do yall crimp your .44 Special Loads? My bullets are currently seated on the bottom edge of the cannalure groove.

I appreciate y’all. I should have mentioned that I did double check the Maximum Over All Case Length in my Sierra, Nosler, and Hornady manuals as well. They all give a 1.615. That being said, the reason I typically look at the Barnes is that it’ll also give a Minimum Overall Case Length. For some reason, the others don’t. That being said, I did take your advice and bump it down from my original 1.510 to 1.495. That got a little better hold on that cannelure groove with the crimp.
I am a fan of the JHC’s. I’ve looked for the Power Pistol and never can seem to find it. I’ve heard it’s a good powder.
