Li'l Gizzy 22LR HP tool

For a long time now we have built a little tool that will form the standard solid or bulk 22 LR into a variety of nose shapes and styles as well as "bumping" up or slightly swaging the bullets as well, making them more uniform bullet to bullet which often has a nice increase in accuracy. We started calling it the Li'l Gizzy - I really can't remember why, that was like 15 or 16 years ago, and I ain't getting no younger! But i am quite sure it was a really neat a profound reason . . .

Anyway, the tool was always a bit plain and simple and only came in one version. But recently we made a few changes. Gussied it up a bit. Improved the insides which do all the real work. And even added a couple options. SO . . .

This is the basic tool. It is the die, a knock-out punch, standard HP, Flat point, and large HP punch. When we built this originally it was to be used in either a drill press (Not running) or one of those little Reloading arbor presses (The big ole bench ones work too) These allow for consistant depth of punch and repeatability.

This is a tiny little sample of what you do with this thingy. That one right in the middle and the one all the way to the right are really quite explosive compared to plain old stock HP ammo. The one all the way to the left is basic garden variety 22LR HP performance. Number 2 I would equate to the stingers in performance. What you can make with these is all up to you. Press the punches lightly, deeply use an HP then an FP make a full wadcutter, what you like!

The HP process bumps up the bullet a bit and makes them a bit more uniform bullet to bullet. This CAN have a real affect on accuracy. My little Single six was acting rather ho-hum with a batch of CCI Mini Mag HP ammo last fall. On a whim I ran the already HP ammo through the die with the standard punch. I amde the HP a slight bit larger but more importantly my groups went from 1-1/2" plus at 25 yds to under an inch. As a plus they really put the smack of the edible critters as well! Win Win

For years we were asked if these could be made to work in the Relaoding press, and I always avoided it till now.

This outfit is for the RL press. The dies set is the regular standard Gizzy and can of course be used as normal. The three items to the left are the fun stuff. That short flat piece just snaps into the shellholder slot of the ram of a single stage press and creates and anvil/base. The die to the right holds the form punches and screws into the head like any other die. In use the internal punch on the threaded die is hld in by set screw. Pull the punch, drop in the form punch you wish to use, place the internal punch back in till it lightly touches the form punch lock the selt screw and place it a couple of turns into the RL press. Then just put a shell in the die, set the die on theram plate and run it up into the punch. Yo adjust by threading up or down till you get the desired effect and them set the lock ring. (Not shown but included)

That last little piece is another anvil that can be screwed into the underside of the press head and allows the RL press to act like a little arbor press. Just a handy thing to have in the set once you have one.

I am hoping to get a couple short videos put together of these in use soon
