More questions

I really appreciate y’all and your support while I figure a lot of this out. I’ve got a couple of easy questions and would love to know your expertise and opinions.

  1. Static in my powder dispenser. I’ve got two powder dispensers(an RCBS and a Lee). I always struggle with powder sticking to the side of the plastic. It’s not an issue, just an annoyance. How do y’all handle this?

  2. What to look for in a good crimp. I use RCBS dies. When it comes to crimping, they have you lower the die until it touches the shell, lower the press handle, and turn the die an 8th of a turn. I know over crimping can be a problem, so I usually stick to this or turn just a bit more. Never more than a quarter turn. That being said, I really don’t know what I am looking at or for. Any helpful tips?

As always, thank yall!

Same as some of the others. Pull a dryer sheet that has just been used to wipe down. The crimp totally depends on what you are shooting. If a really heavy load of H110 or similar powder with a jacketed bullet I roll crimp it until a see a radius form from the case mouth touching the deepest point of the cannelure. I d this in a separate operation from seating the bullet. When I seat the bullet it is with the seating die adjusted to simply straighten the case over the cannelure. After roll crimping it I run it through a Lee factory crimp die adjusted so that the top of the case mouth forms a slight but visible ring. This came from actual lad testing velocities with different crimps. On one load it gained a little over 100 fps and the ES numbers dropped from the 50s to the 20s. I had forgot about posting a pic of this until I read this post. I'll try to do one in the next few days and post it. On cast bullets I don't get carried away. I just want a firm roll. Usually if I see a radius that completely covers the edge of the crimp groove it is enough.
