First Contender deer
We struck out this year during elk season, so I had to get out and see if I could get a whitetail doe or two with my 35 Remington Contender. My brother and I got a late start and it was almost 9 before we started. The place we hunt is at the foot of the Bighorn mountains and it's really open and steep with narrow but thick brush in the draws. Usually it's fairly easy to stalk the edges of the brush and get a good shot at several deer, but numbers are down and they've been hunted enough that they were skittish. A 20 mph wind all day didn't help much either. After 5 hours, several failed stalks, and almost 3 miles we finally crawled up on some bedded does. The shot was 105 yards laying on my back in the snow resting on a knee. I hit just behind the shoulder, through both lungs and out the offside shoulder. The 180gr Cutting Edge dropped her in her tracks. My brother had brought his 375 win. Contender to try and get his first handgun deer with, but just didn't feel confident enough with it to make that shot, so as soon as I shot he stood up and made a heck of an offhand shot at 150yds with his 280 ackley rifle.

So we got back out today to fill our last tags and my brother got his first handgun deer. Was snowing big wet flakes in the morning. We walked opposite sides of a small brush patch and my brother flushed 20 head out right passed me. I laid down prone and got a 125 yard shot on a really big doe. I hit her a little farther back than I wanted to but she ran about 50 yards and piled up. After we got my doe to the pickup we snuck down into another draw, trying to get on some deer on the other side. Then a doe stepped out right below us at 137 yards. She had no idea we were there so my brother could get set up with his contender. He hit her high in the shoulder and she dropped.
