Zombie Buck
The day started off like any other day out hunting. Nothing could have prepared me for what was going to take place.
Checking the HuntStand app for wind direction before I left home, made it necessary to hunt a piece of my property that Iโve never hunted before. I decided to take the ghillie suit with me, since I would be hunting the edge of the power line and didnโt want to be seen.
Side note, for those that have never used a ghillie suit, itโs a game changer, when you want to get close to animals and be invisible.
Shortly after first light, two does walked through the brush beside me and one of them heard me cock the USRH, in preparation for them to step out into the power line. She quickly backpedaled and the other doe followed right behind her.
They were only 20โ away when they walked by me.
Later on, I see another deer coming beside me on the same trail, and it has antlers.
This time I waited until he was in the power line before I cocked the revolver.
At the shot, he dropped in his tracks.
As I sat and watched the buck lay dead for 25 minutes, I grabbed a snack and a drink, to pass the time.
Then, just like a bad horror flick, the buck reanimates himself as his head pops up, and he looks back down the trail that he just came down. Then he gets up, wobbles a little, steadies himself, then begins walking back the trail that leads right by me.
When he walks up beside me I put another 45 Colt in him. This time I put it through his neck, and he drops in his tracks again.
I jump up and in an instant, Iโm standing over him, ready for him to reanimate again.
Fortunately that was the end of him.
After we got the hide off at the processor, we could see a perfect broadside shot that took out both lungs, and the shot that broke his neck.
If he reanimates now, itโll be in the walk in cooler, and not my problem.
Decent bodied 5.5 point buck.

Maybe. I can only guess that he was taking shallow breaths, that weren't noticeable from where I was.
