HHI PSR In the Field

Ryan was good enough to step up when the original PSRs were no longer available and remake a better, improved and AVAILABLE alternative.

Ryan sent me the first one to test. I used it heavily in WV this year on groundhogs and a lot in ID for rockchucks. But, I got lazy and never said much about it.

Now I have A LOT of deer permits and it's time to show how good this new, improved PSR is. It's a little wider than the original on the base. The curved area of the verticle piece is a little more shallow than the original. I was a little concerned at first, but after constant use I came to conclude that it's OK once I got use to it.

I have this really neat place for permit deer. It's a massive soy bean field 900 yds. by 500 yds. with an old barn almost in the middle. I set up in the barn (in the shade. It was 97* today!!

I was using my SSK .375/.284 XP with 260 gr. Nosler ABs. I've found this bullet and round drops deer in their tracks about 98% of the time. I'm too old to go chasing deer in the brush in this kind of heat. My .325 WSM XP with 180 gr. Nosler Ballistic Silver Tips does almost as good. Besides, I can relive all my Africa hunts and moose hunts with these 2 guns. Both shoot 1 1/2" and with the fantastic Burris 3-12 BPlex they are great to 400 yards. How's that for "big gun" accuracy.

Normally, deer are not coming out in this heat until 7:45-8:30. I was sort of shocked to see one at 6:35! at 211 yards eating the beans. I set up my BogPod & HHI PSR with the .375. The 260 AB dropped her on the spot !! I decided to wait a few minutes (dreading the clean up in the heat).

At 6:45 another big doe stepped out of the woods 70 yards from my dead doe and started mowing the beans at 201 yards. She walked a little broadside. I was able to follow here by easily turning the PSR on the BogPod base. As she increased her speed I put the crosshair on the very front of her chest and fired. The 260 AB dropped here immediately.

A old friend goes with me on most of these permit hunts to keep me company and help carry the deer after I CLEAN THEM BY MYSELF in 7/1/2-8 minutes each!!

I thought this would make a cool pic showing the extreme usefulness of the BogPod and HHI PSR . It has worked great in ID (rockchucks) and Africa (kudu at 365 yds.).

We pulled the deer together...sweated, took the pic....sweated...I cleaned them & he bagged them....sweated...carried them 250 yds. back to my Explorer...sweated (get a theme here!!!) We finaaly unloaded them and set in the Explorer with the A/C on. Outside temp was 96*!!!!!!

I think this shows the usefulness the Bog/PSR and the questional intelligence of an old Hit Man. But I love it! Oh, these were deer #66 and 67 of the summer and lifetime handgun deer # 2783.

Thank you, Ryan. Great job!!

Looks like Ryan knocked it out of the park with that rest.
