2025 Foggy Mtn
Congrats to all those HHI contest winners and bear harvesters. I really wanted to go with yall. Couple buddies and I could not make the HHI hunt due to mandatory training but then it shifted one week so we moved weeks at Foggy Mountain which is a few hours south of the HHI hunt.
Finally had a bear come in at 6pm, very thick and limited view. I was also only 17 yards from barrel which made it extremely hard to not be heard. This bear appeared and looked me over as I slowly got my eyes and ears on. Perfectly broad side until I cocked the hammer. It was so quiet, the hammer sounded like a real hammer. Bear started to turn to leave and the 480 Ruger hand cast and PC Lee 395 grain WFN hit behind the shoulder and due to bear turning came out the front of neck. Diameter hole in and out, also hit the barrel, penetrated the lid which was inside then exited the barrel bottom.
Bear bolted for 60 yards but the blood trail was exceptional. Bullet still got top heart plumbing and jugular- bear was tough to go 60 yards but was dry of blood. Mostly luck as it turned to hit so well. But I will gladly take it!
