Success In The Field

2025 HHI African Safari Group II

New here and Hell of a way to make a first post other than to give Kim Hell but here goes.

I was part of the second HHI group to go to Limpopo in 2025 July 12-27.

Everything Joe said in his post is true for me too. Great time, great folks, great hunt. First of all, I'm by no means new to sixguns but am new to the handgun hunting game and this was a "trial by fire" for me. I've always thought of my handgun as "a tool of opportunity" rather than my primary hunting arm. Always wanted to kill some big game with a handgun but the opportunity hasn't presented itself with timing right and with most of my field time being in NM and the lottery/tag system if you want meat in the freezer you better do what you have to to get it there.

Well, after 10 days on the Dark Continent I believe I'm hooked. Not going to give a day-to day rundown like Joe did. He did a great job of that and my experience was very similar. Peiter and John were our PH and tracker too...

The guns I took were both Freedom arms guns, a M83 in 454 and a 2008 chambered in .338 Federal. Was shooting handloads in both, a 300gr A-Frame in the revolver and a 210gr Barnes TTSX in the 338. Both guns/loads performed flawlessly if I did my job. For the record, I shot the guns 12 times, twice at sight in, 9 times for 9 kills and once for the coup de gras on a runner. Shots were from between 35 and 150yds. To say I'm pleased with how I shot would be an understatement.

Here are some pics of the animals, most with the gun I used. Hope ya' like 'em....
