XP-100/Bolt Guns

New toy for me!

I was picking up my new Super Wrangler and eyed up a xp-100 that I have seen sitting there for a while. After talking a little about bolt action handgunning at the HHI Bear Hunt, I looked a little too close. 😂

It’s currently chambered in 7mm BR, but that doesn’t get me excited. So, off to Iowa for a new barrel. Going to have the ejection port opened up a touch as well. New chambering will be 1:7 twist 25 Titan (formerly 25 RPR/ which is how my barrel will be marked). Essentially it’s a 25 creedmoor/ ackley improved with throats long enough to easily run Berger 133 Elite Hunters (hence needing port opened a little).

It came with a Burris 4x on it, but planning on a big brake, so going to put a vortex rifle scope on. Same scope I have on my Savage Impulse 25 RPR;…

That scope looks like a Burris, not a Leupold. With the target knobs and AO, if you decide to sell it let me know.

New Nosler M48

Finally got this put together and decided to try a scout scope. The scout scope has the better eye relief between a pistol scope and a rifle scope for this application. After my hunt in SC that had most shots at, or over 200 yards, I picked this M48 up to remedy the need for a long range handgun. This one is chambered in 308 and was near impossible to find one available. I used my SFAR in SC for the longer shots, but the muzzle blast was a bit much for anyone else sharing the blind with me. I installed a linear compensator, that will help with this issue, until the ATF releases my Dead Air suppressor. I don't have many long shots, where I hunt at home, but this will be the go-to for future hunting trips that provide room to stretch out there.

I have a 6.5CM with a Gen II Little Bastard brake and you are right, wicked loud, especially in a blind but accurate and fun to be sure.

Savage 110 PCS - 20 Practical

Around July this year I decided I wanted another Specialty Pistol.  I have a 20 VT and 17 HMR that has taken a lot of prairie dogs and decided I wanted another caliber.

After talking with Ernie about actions and doing lots of research online, I came across the Savage 110 PCS.  I really didn’t care for the 10.5” barrel, but that could be changed.  They are available in 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, .350 Legend, .300 Blackout and .223 Remington.  Not really any of the calibers I was thinking about.

I found several write ups on the PCS which were all about the same, but really didn’t answer all my questions.  I watched numerous YouTube videos which was a waist of time.  Many of people on YouTube really had no idea what they had or how it should be used.  There were a few good ones, but they…

Awesome! Thank you. I’m going to give it a try on my PCS.

Savage 110 PCS

Looking for some feedback on the Savage PCS.

I'm looking at making up a new SP. I currently have SP's in Rem. 20VT and CZ 17 HMR. Both of these have seen a lot of action in the PD fields.

While doing some searching, I came across the Savage 110 PCS. There are a few video reviews on it, but some of these guys don't have a clue what there using or how to use it.

Do a search here, I did come across some information, but not very much.

I have a 6 BR Savage model 10 rifle that is very accurate and have had no issues. I have no experience with the model 110, but like all firearms you'll hear about some issues people have had.

My 17 HMR has a MDT chassis which is the same model the Savage PCS has. Very nice chassis for me.

I own one in a 308. I have had it for a while and killed a deer with it. Not sure what exactly you want to know but if your looking for a bolt handgun it works well and is a lot better on your wallet than other options out there. Left hand bolt is nice in the handgun format but not great if you add a brace, accepts normal mags, accuracy was better than expected, easy to carry, I would have liked to see a little longer barrel, works good as a suppressed handgun option, the adaptor for a brace is nice to have or you can SBR with a folding stock. It seems to be a compromise on every aspect. I tend to grab the revolvers still over this gun. I think for prairie dog or open country hunting it would make for a great option. I also like that the savage prefit barrels are easy to swap. Oh and the MDT chassis is top quality. If you have specific questions feel free to PM me. This is just my perspective of course.
