Record keeping for HHI

I know it’s been talked about on other threads, but in the 50th Anniversary SCI Safari Magazine, Mark Hampton made some really good points. For one, as handgun hunters, we’re the red headed step child of the hunting world. Many people think of it as a gimmick or a stunt. I take my handgun Hunting seriously, as many others do. The SCI measuring system scores the animals as they are found in nature. It’s really about the only place to compare the overall quality of your trophy’s with other handgunners, and every animal taken with any weapon. As a life member, I have never listed any animals, and I have many what would be gold medal animals. In speaking with one of my hunting buddies, he reminded me that the PH’s and guides we use get credit for getting us onto great animals, and by having them listed by name, region, type of weapon etc, it shows areas where there has been previous animals taken and with what Safari group, or guide. Many PH’s rely on things like this to boost their livelihood. It’s not so much a bragging board for people as it is a valuable tool to show areas, regions, guides, PH’s, and the quality of the animals taken in that area. If you are looking for a place to hunt s given animal, you can find a successful guiding service, or what area you should hunt on your own, that has had great success. Remember 90% of the good animals are in 10% of the areas. What are some opinions on this?

I love the idea. Can you have a category for unfilled tags? Sorry. Just a fact of life for some of us.

On a more positive note, I do like the idea of information on guided hunts. I know in the past that I had great luck with reviews from the " old" HHI yellow paper. I figured people would be truthful to a fault and you would be able to steer clear of any bad apples in the guide-outfitter world.
