Another gunsmith is closing shop
I'm writing this for Jack Huntington my friend, he has no computer or use for one he says. He would still have his flip phone if it did not brake and his apprentice gave his a updated phone.
Jack Huntington for 43 years has been a payed gunsmith. After college to learn gunsmithing he took a year off and than as he says, started to play with guns. Jack is one of the few gunsmiths that can work on a 100,000$ double african rifle, ultra high end double shotgun and be turning a 5 shot cylinder for a big bore pistol. He has built double rifles, repaired blown up automags and repair antique Colt single actions for a collector. In the late 90"s Jacks wrist and arm was hurting him and he had it opperated on. He wore a brace some of the time but now its all the time. Just recently he broke his ankle/leg and has been hobbling around the shop.
Jack has had many apprentices all thinking they could quickly learn the craft and make big money. Only the very last apprentice has started a shop building custom rifles. This a very condensed version of Life of Jack, talk to him about superbikes, dinosaurs or ancient history you will be on the phone for awhile.
Jack will be closing his shop at the end of this year. All guns in his possession he will finish as agreed to, he will not take on any new porjects. Jack wants to build spec guns, work on a special new pistol round that he needs to perfect and maybe build a new autopistol from the ground up.
Jack wants to thank everyone of his customers and the customers who became his friend. Thank you all.
I hate to see him retire but I understand. He is building a gun for my son right now and it sounded like he is going to finish the few he is building now and call it quits. I wish him well in retirement.
