First deer ever and first kill with BFR .44 Mag.

Well, this was all the handgunners on this forum's fault. I had never shot anything bigger than a coyote but due to you making post of all the beautiful animals you harvested I decided to go deer hunting. I had a nice S&W 686 that should be adequate but one of you sent me a copy of Max Prasac's “Big Bore Handguns” which I read cover to cover and then again and again and he kept talking about recoil. I found out that the .357 Magnum was just a “threshold” cartridge and the fun begins with the .44 Magnum. Then there's the guy that started the idea of an African hunt for cull game and I knew I needed more than the .357. I kept wondering if my 78 years old (would be 79 by the trip) hands could handle the recoil of the big .44. It took me too long to get one in my hands to be able to sign up for the Africa trip but with the aid of a gentleman about 80 miles away I found out that the .44 was not the beast I imagined. This led to the purchase of a Magnum Research BFR in .44 Magnum knowing that if necessary it could be used with +P+ ammo for big game.

Well now that I'm properly equipped to shoot something bigger than a coyote I decided to take up deer hunting. I've killed one small buck but that was with my new truck, the repair cost more than a good handgun. Now my 20 acres backs up to a conservation area and the deer are plentiful plus they keep eating my new trees. I made a make shift blind in my fence row over looking a six acre field so I'm ready. I've been watching an eight point buck walk across my fields for a couple of weeks but I decided the first deer I got my red dot on would just be fine.

This morning about 6:30 three does walked out into my field. I let them mosey up to within 50 yards and chose the largest one. I hit her a little higher and farther back then I should have but she only ran about 30 yards and dropped. Skinned out, dressed out, and in the cooler. 240 gr. XTP, 24.0 gr. H110, with Win. primer.

Thanks guys, keep up the inspirations.
