Dry Fire Training with Laser Cartridges

For starters, one of things that bothers me about my handgun shooting is my lack of talent, my lack of experience, and my lack of success. A couple of years ago, I bought a dry fire cartridge that has a laser in it for my .40 S&W(ironically the only semi auto that I own). The cartridge came with a set of targets, app, and phone stand (Mantis is the company). The striker fire firing pin hits where a primer would be and a laser flashes across the target. The phones camera catches the flash and logs the shop in the app.

I liked it so much, I bought a cartridge for my Blackhawk in .357 mag. However the firing pin does not release on the Blackhawk until the trigger is released. So the app picked up every movement on the target. This produced useless results. For at least a year, the only use I got out of the .357 cartridge was using it to torture my beagle.

Then I decided that the app wasn’t necessary. With the sustained laser, I had a pretty good idea where the shot was. Plus it forced me to work on holding the gun steady.

All this being said, this has been invaluable as a way to work fundamentals. I found inconsistencies in my trigger pull and I was able to uniform my sight picture. This produced much improvement on the actual firing range.

It also provided me the most valuable tool to good shooting, rounds down range(even if theoretical). I’ve got my target set up in my living room and I can practice while listening to the TV.

Anyways, I would love to know your thoughts, opinions, and experiences using these?

It sounds pretty fun. I may give it a look.
