454 and moose
Starting to look into an Alaskan Yukon moose hunt, I’m trying to decide to stay with the revolver idea or move up to a SSP. Anyone that has hunted these big fellas what is a expected range where the 454 will do the job? Does it need to stay under a 100? FYI it is not tomorrow so I have several years I suppose to get proficient with whatever I choose. Expected load would be a full house load with a 300 a frame in front. If I go SSP I’m assuming I’ll start with an. 06 case and have a 338, 358,or 375 bullet in front. What do you think?

Matt, I think my shot was about 45 yds, there were 2 bulls bedded together, I grunted to get them to stand up in the snow & then shot the biggest one offhand with the 385 gr cast bullet through both lungs. Stevie Wonder could have tracked it the 35-40 yds it stumbled before cashing in it's chips. My load was only doing about 1050 fps. Easy on the back but deadly out the front.
